Dr Mehmet Kizil
Dr Mehmet Kizil is a senior lecturer in mining engineering and leads the mining engineering program at The University of Queensland.
Dr Kizil has been teaching mining engineering students at UQ since 1996 and has contributed to the education of more than 500 graduates.
Dr Kizil played a leading role in developing and establishing the Mining Education Australia (MEA) program. Officially launched in 2007, MEA is a joint initiative among the three major mining universities in Australia – UQ, The University of New South Wales and Curtin University. Established with the support of the mining industry and government, the program delivers a world-class undergraduate mining education program via a common nationwide third and fourth year mining engineering curriculum. The University of Adelaide joined the MEA program in 2008. MEA ensures that Australian mining engineering students meet the industry’s need for graduates with better professional skills, life-long learning capabilities and exposure to a standard curriculum.
An award-winning lecturer, Dr Kizil’s teaching and learning innovations have been recognised by both students and colleagues achieving numerous School, Faculty and University commendations. In 2008, Dr Kizil was awarded a Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council. The citation acknowledged Dr Kizil’s dedicated commitment and leadership in innovative curriculum development through successful national and industry collaboration in mining engineering.
Dr Kizil has worked as an engineering researcher and academic in universities around the world, including the UK, Turkey and Australia.
