School of Mechanical & Mining Engineering

Milestones:

You can find your next milestone due date on my.UQ (my.uq.edu.au) or mySI-net (sinet.uq.edu.au), via the Research tab. Please ensure you read the following important information about what is required to complete your milestone. You may also find the Milestone Guidelines a helpful tool (although these will be updated soon).

Committee Members
The Review Committee is comprised of:
the Chair of Review Committee;
your Advisory Team;
at least one member of staff who is not a member of the Advisory Team and who has expertise in the general area of the thesis project;
any optional members - including other academics who are interested in your chosen topic, or a representative student member.

The Chair of Review Committee is nominated by the Postgraduate Coordinator. This is sent to you in your Confirmation reminder email. The Chair of your Review Committee will be a part of all three milestones and will also act as the Chair of Examiners for your thesis examination. The Chair is the Head of School's representative on the Committee and is responsible for assuring proper standards are met.

**Note that it is the responsibility of you and your Advisory Team to arrange an appropriate date and time for your milestone to take place and invite all of your committee members to attend.

Turn-it-in Originality Report
The School uses Turn-it-in (accessed using your student credentials via the HDR Blackboard site: learn.uq.edu.au) to assess academic integrity. You must submit your Confirmation Report to Turn-it-in via Blackboard, at least two weeks prior to your milestone committee meeting. The Postgraduate Coordinator will review the Originality Report and if there are any concerns regarding academic misconduct, this will be referred to the School's Academic Integrity Officer for processing. If this occurs, your milestone committee meeting will not take place until any concerns around the Academic Integrity of your report are resolved.

You can upload your report to Turn-it-in multiple times before your milestone is due and use the Originality Report (that will refresh with each submission) as a tool to assess any potential academic integrity issues prior to your milestone.

Your originality report should be circulated to your milestone committee along with your Thesis Development Plan two weeks prior to your Confirmation meeting.

Research Integrity Module
The Research Integrity Module (learn.uq.edu.au > My Communities) is compulsory and must be completed before you will be able to submit your Attainment Request via my.UQ (my.uq.edu.au). This module provides advice and information on research design, managing and protecting your interests, research data management, authorship and more.

Submitting your Attainment of Milestone
Once you have successfully completed your milestone, you must submit the following documents with your Attainment of Milestone Request on my.UQ  (via My Requests):
completed Milestone Evaluation Form (Confirmation, Mid-Candidature Review, Thesis Review) with all signatures;
completed Thesis Development Plan  with all signatures that includes the date you completed your Annual Fire Safety induction, and if Thesis Review, the date of your Final Seminar presentation; and
Turn-it-in Originality Report (first page only)

Submission
If you are almost ready to submit, please commence the School’s submission process. This includes the following:
  1. Submission of your thesis to Turn-it-in. The School uses Turn-it-in (accessed using your student credentials via the HDR Blackboard site, learn.uq.edu.au) to assess academic integrity. You can upload your report to Turn-it-in multiple times before your Submission is due and use the Originality Report (that will refresh with each submission) as a tool to assess any potential academic integrity issues prior to submission;
  2. Completion of your Thesis Development Plan; and
  3. Completion of the Thesis Submission Form.
Once the above has been completed, please submit to the School Office. When you receive your fully endorsed Thesis Submission Form, you can upload your thesis to UQ eSpace via the Graduate School submission procedures. You can find details on the Submission procedure at the following link: https://graduate-school.uq.edu.au/node/30/5#5.

If it has not yet been completed, your superviser is required to complete the Nomination of Thesis Examiners Form available to advisors online here: https://intranet.sharepoint.uq.edu.au/sites/GraduateSchool/_layouts/15/start.aspx#/SitePages/Forms.aspx. This can be returned to the School or emailed directly to thesis@gradschool.uq.edu.au.
