The School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering combines a world-class reputation with more than 60 years of excellence to remain at the cutting-edge of engineering education, research and expert consultation.  

The School delivers a comprehensive program of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate programs in aerospace, materials, mechanical, mechatronic and mining engineering studies, and has established an excellent reputation for the quality of its graduate training and research performance.

The School’s reputation for research excellence attracts academia from around the world. Our diverse research programs address the evolving needs of industry and society, and contribute to economic and social development. The School’s established research strengths in Hypersonics, Light Metals and Mining Technology are complemented by ongoing growth in areas such as composites, geothermal energy, metals manufacturing and rock mechanics.

Strong links between the School and industry have lead to a number of strategic industry partnerships. The School is also actively involved in the prestigious ARC Centre of Excellence for Design in Light Metals and in several national Cooperative Research Centres. These collaborations provide valuable funding to progress research priorities and ensure that teaching programs continue to remain responsive to the changing needs of industry.

Graduates of the School join a growing body of more than ten thousand former students which comprise the UQ Engineering Alumni Network.
